Product Description
While we previously thought this was John Tomac's bike, it's been confirmed with JT that that's not true. It was custom built for a track racer and never used. It passed hands in Durango CO over the years, and somewhere along the line a legend/rumor started that it was Tomac's bike. There is a picture of this exact frame on Yeti Fan, under the "prototypes" page. While it's exact origins are somewhat a mystery still, it's one unique and cool piece of cycling history as it dates to before Yeti ever made a road bike (Road Project).
Here is what I know about it:
- The dropouts are Shimano, with a date code of 1991 (PE). That means it can't be older than a 1991
- There is no serial number or other markings besides the dropouts
- The ports to the seattube and downtube inside the bottom bracket are sealed off (the inside of the bb shell is smooth, with no holes to the tubes)
- The welds on the seatstay bridge and dropouts show through the paint. Unsure why this was done, but it looks cool!
- Internal rear brake cable routing
- The frame was never ridden
- Accepts 650c wheels
Condition:
New Old Stock, great shape! Frame and fork are straight. Overall, the paint is glossy and great looking. Decals are near perfect, though the right side of the headtube decal's top clear layer is peeling a bit. Very few scratches. The only issue with the paint is chipping on the edges of the head tube where the headset sits, and a few chips on the inside of the fork legs. There's also paint chipping around the fork's brake hole from brake installation. Headset has been freshly greased and spins very smooth.
