Product Description
Absurdly rare treasure from the end of Cook Quality Product's history circa 1991. These are are the hard to find tig welded tubular steel version, made from 1991 to 1993 (I think). They are technically 2nd gen CQP cranks, the first gen Gary Cook made for CQP after selling Cook Brothers Racing to Jack Whitmer were apparently too similar to the CBR cranks so they issued two different designs. This one is the nickel plated Pro-Lite "Race" version, and it has a titanium look. The Pro-Lite "Pro" version F-2000 was black zinc-plated. The tubular design is reminiscent of old school BMX Profile cranks. It seems Cook Brothers had a patent/claim over the non-standard crank arm lengths of 171mm/176mm/178mm, because the CQP's are offered in 174mm and 177mm
In this era CQP made the alloy M-2000 which had cracking issues like most of the boutique aluminum cranks of the era and it seems the steel version was a resounding answer to the "can we have a crank that absolutely won't break" scream the industry was issuing. Its great for Dh, freeride, and enduro, or even BMX thrashing if you can deal with 9/16" pedals. They also made a titanium Pro-Lite in the same tubular design as the steel in 1992.
Condition
Truly proper new old stock in retail bag with manual and brochure! Barely ever removed from the package, absolutely never mounted. The non-drive arm, dust caps, and inner ring spacers have never been removed from its original plastic bag. Crank is extremely close to absolutely pristine, and in just as good shape as it was when it was ordered in 1991.
