Product Description
Rare cyclocross saddle with flat duralumin rails from the 1950's. This sat between the Ideale 57 and Ideale 59 road saddle, the big difference being the 58 has a snub nose to allow easier mount/dismounts. Includes the original 1950's #4 seat clip! These are ideal for top level randonneur bicycles such as Jo Routens and Alex Singer, as well as road bikes that you just like this look better.
Condition
Excellent rideable condition! Adjusting nut has not been turned at all. The leather is firm and supple, maybe just a touch hard on top but still flexes some when you push with your fingers. Give it some Neatsfoot/Proofhide and you're in business, or ride it as is if you prefer a firm saddle. Light cracking in a few small areas. Weird "cow splash" patina of reddish brown playing with the black. A bit of tasteful sitbone indents shows it's provenance of seeing some miles. Rear corners have light rubs (perhaps very light scuffs?). Quite minimal other physical wear. Rail and frame in excellent shape. Seat clip shows just a touch of rust in spots. Overall it's not a pristine show saddle, but it's good enough for most everyone else if you like the cow splash.
