Product Description
The Tete de Course (a French expression for "Head of the Race") was Lemond's top of the line model, and retailed for $5500 w/Dura Ace 7800. It represented the best riding frame available in the mid 2000's, and competes steadily with today's top bikes. It gives an incredibly smooth ride and an amazingly stiff platform for sprinting. Today, the frame is very rare. Not many were made, and not many are seen on the market. In this size, building it below 16 pounds with nice components is reasonable.
The frame is made from OLCV 110 carbon and Reynolds mechanically butted 3AI/2.5v titanium. Mixing carbon and ti frame materials has always resulted in excellent frames. The theme is regaining popularity these days, as the industry seeks the next best over straight carbon. Seven Cycles is at the forefront of the push, who makes bikes rather similar to this Lemond.
Frame size
The small/medium 51cm frame features compact geometry. Seat tube is 51cm (c-t) and 49cm (c-c) Top tube is 53cm (c-c). The head tube is 120mm, which is taller than the stock sizes. And the other dimensions don't match up exactly with the stock sizes. Perhaps this was a custom build? It will fit someone roughly 5ft 1 to 5ft 7.
Condition:
Excellent to near mint lightly used shape! It is a one owner frame, ridden by a 115 pound woman who takes very good care of her bikes. The frame is straight with zero structural issues. Both the carbon and ti finish look amazing. The ti looks nearly new with only a few of those micro-scratches ti gets. The carbon looks amazing with the exception of a few light scuffs on the top tube from leaning against a wall (near the Tete De Course logos). Decals and paint are perfect. Headset is super smooth.
