Product Description
These are first generation Paul Love brake levers for canti brakes, circa mid to late 1990's. These were first introduced in 1994, and the very first year had hollow pivots. In 1996 they updated them to this version that is exactly the same except it now has "Slop Adjust" adjustable brass pivots! They are exceedingly rare, and coveted for retro mtb builds.
They are quite a bit different than the current production Paul levers. Most obviously these have a small "P" decal instead of the current anodizing. More dramatically is the shape of the lever itself. On these vintage ones the inside-facing edge is straight, and turns a 90 degree angle at the front creating a boxy shape on both the body and the lever blade. The modern ones body curves inward and the lever blade curves outward. The vintage one has a different bend to the blade. The barrel adjusters on the vintage are round while modern have protruding knobs.
Condition
Near mint very lightly used shape, LOW miles. Zero fading. Just barely a mark in the anodizing. The rear lever blade's tip has the slightest little scrapes, and there's a few tiny ano marks elsewhere on the blade's forward edges. Decals are near mint with just the slightest dirt spots on the edges these always get. Show bike worthy for all but the cleanest NOS show bikes.
