Product Description
*New info from Peter Mooney: Peter looked up this frame, and said it was built in 1987 as a training bike for one of Greg Lemond's domestiques. It was originally built with Campagnolo 50th anniversary Super Record! He said it was involved in a crash, which bent the fork (which is why the fork currently on the frame is not original/matching)*
Peter Mooney is an English bicycle frame builder, who was one of the founders of Wheelworks. He relocated to Belmont, MA (near Boston) in 1964 where he has been building a small number of frames ever since. Peter was also a successful racer in the 1970's and early 80's. He is one of a few builders who still shapes his own lugs! Simply a gorgeous lugged steel road bicycle frame.
This frame was a custom build. It has a 58cm (c-c) seat tube with a rather short 55.5cm top tube. The angles look fairly typical, though the stays are on the short side. The fork is possibly not original, though the crown lugs do have a somewhat similar profile to the frame lugs. Frame material is unknown, but Columbus SL is most common on these. Peter does not paint his own frames, and this one was painted by Cycle Art. It's color is a deep metallic charcoal. It really is lovely.
Condition:
Very good used shape. The frame is straight with no dents, cracks, bends, or other structural damage. The paint is average, with lots of scratches, chips, and random damage. In un-damaged areas the paint looks very nice, and has a great glossy metallic sheen. Non-original fork in great shape.
