Product Description
These legendary WTB-designed tires were way ahead of their time. They rock folding Kevlar beads while 90% of tires still had steel/wire beads, and their compound is super sticky and soft in an era of rock hard rubber. Their compound is quite similar to today's ultra high performance DH tires (perhaps why these are so rare; soft and sticky tires wear out quicker). The tread pattern is chunky and blocky with aggressive side knobs. Perhaps the ultimate tire for pro racer level retro mountain bike restorations? These don't come along often, especially this nice.
Fun facts regarding the odd name Umma Gumma. The name originates from Cambridge slang for sex, and was subsequently the title of the 1969 Pink Floyd album of the same name. In 2015, scientists named a genus of newly discovered damselfly "Umma" after the album and/or the tire.
Condition
Excellent to near mint very lightly used condition! Tread shows almost zero wear, NO cracking/dryness on casing/sidewalls/tread. These roll up and flex whatever way you want them to with absolutely no crackling sounds. Tread look almost NOS, sidewalls have some mixed cosmetic wear. The outer fibers of the sidewalls have some deterioration in a few small spots. You'll not likely find another set as nice that's not new.
