Product Description
I am reluctantly listing my once mythical original WOMBATS Cookbook. I'll probably never come along another of these in my life, but I am a seller and not a collector and this sale would help fund acquiring ~20 high level vintage bikes from an old collector (to eventually be listed here).
This cookbook was published in 1990 with organizing help from Jeanie Bartholomew. It is a collection of Jacquie Phelan's recipes she used to fuel her riding life. It is in wonderful condition, and is one of the more obscure items in MTB history.
Jacquie aka Alice B. Toeclips is a hero of mine, and truly did amazing things for women's mountain biking and early inclusion in the sport. Plus, she won a LOT of races and gleefully beat pro men at any given chance upon Otto, the dirt drop aluminum mountain bike her husband Charlie Cunningham built her in 1979 (that's right John Tomac devotees, JT was NOT the first to win races on dirt drops). Jacquie founded the Women's Mountain Bike And Tea Society in 1987 with the goal of making mountain bike trail riding accessible to women. The club continues to operate on a small level today.
Condition
Near mint! This book has been cared for well by a woman who was part of the WOMBATS in the early days of the late 1980's and early 1990's. The interior pages are perfect with no writing, tears, folds, or other damage I can find. The colored chapter tabs have a few bent spots but otherwise in nice shape. The back cover is slightly dirty, and the front cover has just a few spots of dirt. A true museum piece
