Product Description
These were the world's first GOOD mountain bike specific tire, made for the 1981 / 1982 / 1983 / 1984 Specialized Stumpjumper. The original Stumpy designed by Tim Neenan (second version designed by Jim Merz) was pretty heavily influenced by the Ritchey/Fisher MountainBikes and purely as a bicycle wasn't anything revolutionary. But these tires! They were their own revolution. These tires meant early mtb builders didn't have to modify balloon tires or source from the BMX world anymore. When word got out on these, all the legendary early builders like Breezer, Ritchey, Cunningham, Potts, Mountain Goat, etc started spec'ing them.
These are R.A.R.E. They're difficult to find in any condition, and even harder to find them in supple crack free form like these! They're the ONLY proper tire for your 81/82/83 Stumpjumper, and the best choice for any Stumpjumper pre-1986 when the Specialized Ground Control replaced the Stumpjumper tire. They're the top choice for any high end early to mid 1980's MTB.
Condition
Barely ridden, rideable, and show bike worthy. Supple and very close to mint with very low miles. Barely any tread wear. No cracking, crackling on bending, or dryness. Even between the knobbies! Aesthetically one tire is near mint and the other is just a bit less clean with some discoloration to the sidewalls. Decals have only light wear/fading. *these are still 40 year old rubber and should be ridden EXTREMELY carefully.
