Product Description
The last version of the legendary Simplex Super LJ (Lucien Juy) rear derailleur! This one took the basic design of the previous SLJ5500 RD and made it "aero" to compete with the Dura Ace AX RD-7300 and more directly the Dura Ace EX RD-7200. The SLJ 5500 was a straight parallelogram while the 6600 got a drop/offset parallelogram for smoother shifting—giving it a geometry similar to the Shimano Crane RD. It was introduced in the very early 1980's, perhaps 1981.
This short cage version is the T/SP, where the long cage version is GT/SP. We could speculate T stands for Touring and GT for Grand Touring, but I'm unaware what SP stands for. In addition to this one with Simplex branding, there were a few rebrands. The most common were center decals of both Spidel and Gipiemme, and I've seen one with the Motobecane "M" logo next to Simplex.
Condition
Near mint or better lightly used shape. It looks much nicer in person than in pics and is show bike worthy for most. The only real wear is the SLIGHTEST lower/left knuckle scuff, scrapes on the edges of the cage plates, and a tiny bit of wear on top of the mount bolt housing. Pivots are tight and smooth, pulleys smooth with very minimal wear.
