Product Description
The front mech (along with the headset & Ritchey-esque crank) from the Mektronic gruppo is so rare some on the internet doubt it ever existed outside team issue / prototype. These drivetrains were VERY expensive so when the groupset was sold and packaged together they came with shifters, rear derailleur, and wiring/sensors/computer. Anything "analog" was a separate purchase. And a purchase that was almost never made from the Mektronic group apparently! The derailleur shows in both the 1999 and 2000 Mavic Mektronic catalog (in pics), though a model name/number is omitted in both.
Mechanically it features the same geometry and pivot system as the legendary Mavic 810 / 860 / 862 front derailleurs. The cage is modernized in both shape and it's ability to shift the extra narrow chains in 9 and 10 speed drivetrains efficiently. It's original clamp adapter is the sleekest I've ever seen. Its the only time in history a derailleur looks better with a clamp adapter! It has titanium hardware throughout.
Mektronic was the world's first wireless electronic drivetrain, all the way back in 1999 and 2000 (a full decade before Shimano Di2!). It was Mavic's update to their 1993 ZAP group which was the world's first electronic drivetrain period.
Condition
I was told this is new old stock, and it probably is. Some very slight shop wear, and the possibility it is a take-off.
