Product Description
The Lewis rear derailleur was made in France circa 1934 into the late 1940's. The derailleur is primarily aluminum construction, particularly curious if it was available during the war! It's a pretty unique design, and most similar to the legendary Cyclo Randonneur Rene Herse preferred. Louis Villemus was the constructeur behind the Lewis brand, who eventually worked with Etienne Bernadet of Reyhand fame. This derailleur is complete with shifter, spring, spring clamp, derailleur chainstay clamp, and cable housing. All it needs is cables!
Condition
Appears to be new old stock with very light shop wear. The clamp that holds the spring to the chainstay has not been bent into it's round clamp shape. Pulley bearings feel perfect, better than I would have expected. No cable marks inside shifter cable slot. A bit of dirt in the deep corners and very light cosmetic shop wear. Housing is dirty. Appropriate for show bikes!
