Product Description
And now for something truly different! It was associated with Cambio Rino of Italy but made and designed in the USA by Excel in 1983. It never saw mass production as the company went out of business the following year. 6000 groups were made for an Australian test market. It was intended to be a simpler and more intuitive drivetrain than traditional derailleurs/shifters. Each shift is precisely the equivalent of two teeth, and there's no fine tuning to get it right in gear! In a way, it's indexed! A great curiosity for your bike history museum display case, L'Eroica bike, or a gift for the cyclist in your life who thinks they have it all!

This is a 16 speed drivetrain that changes gears via it's "expanding chainring" design that's easiest to explain as almost a CCV transmission. It does not use a derailleur, just a chain tensioner to take up chain as the effective chainring gets larger and smaller. Press the handlebar mounted shifter, and the front sprocket expands or contracts. The chainring expands from equivalent 24t to 54t
