Product Description
From the workshop of Jo Routens / Jean Paul Routens, an exceedingly rare and extra light all-aluminum French headset from the 1970's into early 1980's! It was the prime headset choice of constructeurs for high dollar low gram headsets in this era. It was made by B.F. (Belleri) and designed by JP Routens (or the opposite?). The 1st gen Mavic 300 headset circa 1980 was heavily influenced by this headset, but went with a traditional two nut design (and weighs ~14g heavier because of it). They came in black with Italian threads (compatible with BSA forks) and in silver with French threads.
Both the JPR and the Mavic 300 had aluminum races which played into their low weight. Because of this these headsets aren't practical for bikes who are going to have a ton of miles ridden, as the bearings will wear quickly relative to steel bearings. But for show bikes and Sunday Best bikes this is a wonderful choice. The later Mavic 310 addressed this by adding steel races (and gaining 20g)
