Product Description
This crazy bike is straight from the UK, and is designed to be the ultimate in versatility for heavy duty touring. It's designed to do it all. Float over singletrack carrying a load, ride long distances in comfort, shed mud with it's huge clearances, or excel as an all-weather bombproof commuter. It's designed for a Rohloff hub system, but I don't see any reason you couldn't use a Shimano Alfine 11-speed internal hub or as a singlespeed. It does not have a derailleur hanger. For a TON more (and better) info on it, here's the original Sterling Brochure. And here is an awesome review on it from Bike Radar
This one comes with Thorne's suspension-corrected rigid steel bi-plane fork, but it's also spec'd to use an 80-100mm suspension fork. It has tire clearance up to 2.4" for 26" wheels, but can also use road skinnies on 650c rims (or 700c w/ disc brake) due to the high bb height. It has a myriad of accessory braze-ons, for racks, fenders, bottle cages, etc. It's disc brake or v-brake compatible, though the fork is rim brake only.
This model is out of production, and seems quite sought after (at least in Europe!)
Sizing
This is a medium/large frame, which Thorn specifies to fit riders 5ft 8 to 6ft 1. It's highly sloping design allows such a wide range of rider sizes. Full geometry sheet on brochure, linked above.
- Seat tube: 56cm c-t, 41cm c-c
- Top tube: 58.cm
- Virtual top tube: 60.8mm
Condition
Brand new, never built! Some very light shop wear. The steerer is uncut. Zero axle marks on the dropouts. Paint has a few minor marks here and there, but nothing bad enough worth making note of.
