Product Description
Absurdly rare road/track/singlespeed anodized & CNC machined crankset from Ionic circa late 1990's or very early 2000's. Ionic was a very small framebuilder in Boise, Idaho most famous for their Ionic Johnny Rotten hardtail mtb and the mountain bike version of the Billy crank. Eventually they were bought out by Dean, and Ionic became Dean's steel brand. The Ionic Billy XC cranks are silly rare, but I have never seen a picture or even mention of this road version of the Ionic Billy. It has a sticker on the back that says B2 Bomber plus the arm length 172.5mm, perhaps Ionic B2 Bomber was the name of their road crank? This crank has a milled out front face to match the rear. On the mtb Billy, the rear looks just like this but the front face is flat with vertically aligned and curving ridges. I imagine they could machine the fronts so heavily on the road to get the weight down and not be thrashed on the mountain. It has a "clover" style spider reminiscent of the early Race Face Turbine LP. If you have any info on this crank, please contact me!
The spider is for a single chainring in 130mm BCD. Is this for a track bike? Singlespeed roadie? This was the era of the SS bike after all. One arm is black, the other is gold. They match exactly aside from the color. Did it come like this from the factory, or did someone custom order these for a harlequin bike?
Condition
Just barely used, extremely close to mint shape! The only wear I see is the tiniest bit of shoe rub near the pedal hole on the drive arm, a handful of pinpoint size marks on the arm ends, plus one ano wear line on the top tip of the drive arm's end, some light marks on the driveside arm's side by the pedal threads, and some minor ano color inconsistencies on the driveside arm's sides. This is very much show worthy and passes for NOS from a couple feet away.
