Product Description
The early 1960's Campy Sportman rear mech is as mysterious as it is rare. It is one of a slew of "lower end" derailleurs Campagnolo issued in the early 60's including the Valentino and Turismo , and this is the nicest of the lot. It features steel ball bearing pulleys without teeth, just like the early Gran Sport and later 1968 Record. It's finish is a lovely chrome. It doesn't show up in catalogs, and the bike community can't decide whether it was made in 1961 or 1963, or perhaps first in 61' then updated in 63'. Disraeli Gears discusses the legends further here.
Condition
Almost unused condition! This derailleur shows very few miles and is nearly show bike worthy. It's jockey wheels are super smooth and well adjusted. The only wear to note is a touch of wear across both side edges of the face, and a touch on the lower pivot bolt. Quite clean otherwise.
