Product Description
This scarce 1950's and 1960's crank was made by Magistroni (Curtis Odom told me this). They are pretty unique, featuring double flutes on the arms, cutouts on the spider arms, and a scrolly Bianchi logo in place of the more common print type. It wears a Specialties T.A. 173 3-bolt adapter, and old logo TA REF 104 & REF 106 six bolt chainrings (Old logo reads cegedur duralumin forge, ran from the late 1940's to 1960). It is set up as a triple, though it's easily converted to a double or or even single with different chainring bolts. It comes with the 130mm bottom bracket spindle it rode on.
These came stock on the Bianchi Specialissima in the 1960's, and likely it's predecessor the Campione Del Mondo in the 1950's. I'm told they were also found on the Bianchi Record/Rekord.
Condition
These lovely cranks show low mileage, and a bit of patina. The arms have the beginning of pitting and corrosion on the surface chrome, mostly on the sides and back (I haven't even tried to address this). The arm ends are free from scraping! The front faces of the arms are pretty clean, even inside the flutes. There is some weird yellowing around the outward facing side of BB spindle hole (this isn't rust). Chainrings show very little use, teeth are near perfect. Chainring bolts are very clean, though one of the adapter's 3 bolts is slightly different (one has a little nipple in the middle). BB spindle is in great shape. The photos represent the condition very well.
