Product Description
This 1st year MC2 Attitude comes with both it's original Unifork and the installed Manitou Mars suspension fork. Painted to match zero degree MC2 stem/bars. It is built to close XT M737 catalog spec, with the addition of period correct Avid Ultimate Black Ops brakes, S-Works Strongarm crank & Thomson post. It's in lovely condition, with only minor blemishes. The Sea and Sky color is a dizzying "linear" fade theme that goes from the deep blue of a Colorado sunny day to the luminous turquoise of algea-filled waters then plunges all the way down to the depths of the darkest glowing midnight blue of the undersea. It's hard track of where each color fades into the next, and it almost feels like a chameleon paint in some lights!.
The early Klein Attitude is one of the most sought after of vintage mountain bikes. They were way ahead of their time with a stiff aluminum frame, oversized headset, and integrated handlebars and stem. They were designed as a pure race bike. They're happiest when pushed to the absolute limit. Rail it around a corner at speed and it will playfully lose and then regain traction at the optimal moments. Nearly zero power is lost from the pedals to your wheels. It's certainly not designed to be a comfortable all day ride, but it'll get you there in a hurry.
Condition
Excellent or better lightly ridden condition. This one came from a collector who had several very well maintained mountain bikes. Overall the paint and debossed decals looks fresh, glossy, and awesome. It easily passes for new old stock from 5 feet away. Zero chainstay marks from chain slap or suck. Paint on Uni-fork and MC2 bars/stem is almost mint. There are a number of little scuffs (a couple on the bottom of downtube near bb shell, under drive-side top tube Attitude logo, etc) and a few chips (top/side of non-drive chainstay, inner drive-side chainstay). All of these are labeled in the pics. There's few other minor blemishes here and there not worth noting. Upon looking at the photos, I noticed there are some spots where the light reflections bend a little indicating tiny dents. I went back to the bike to check, and I'm not sure if I can even feel them or not. To be safe let's call them paint-level micro-dents, one on the top tube and one under the downtube.
Components are a mix of near mint and a few great/EXC condition pieces. Derailleurs, shifters, hubs, cassette, brakes/pads, chain, Mars fork, chainrings, seatpost are excellent or near mint. Flite saddle looks nice though has rear corner dye wear/scuffs (lots of use left, not quite show worthy). Grips & cables are NOS. Crank arms are factory polished and have a good number of scratches. Rims show quite minimal braking surface wear, though the hub-facing polished surfaces are clouded and have dirty-appearing sections. Tires are supple, not cracked or dry, and rideable (though as all 25 year old rubber they should be ridden very carefully or replaced for real riding). Rear is very clean and shows almost zero use. Front is more used and has maybe 60% life left, though still in solid condition. Mars fork works very well with no leaks.
