Product Description
This show worthy near pristine Paramount is a true USA built model from the Waterford factory in Waterford Wisconson. Paint and decals are original. It is one of the nicest examples of these 1990's Waterford bikes we've seen, and would be one of the very last before the Schwinn Cycles company was sold (and Waterford Design Works was officially founded by Richard Schwinn and Mark Mueller). It is built from lugged True Temper OS tubing, (They fully switched to Reynolds 753 in 1994). This is NOT a PDG series Paramount Design Group (bike (these were made in Japan, by Panasonic)
It has a fresh professional tune, and brand new (mostly period correct) wear items. The ride quality is truly amazing, as is the construction. Standout features include gorgeous hand carved lugs, fastback stays, the trademark Paramount diamond shape around all bosses and brake bridge.
This is identified as a USA model most easily by the following: Lugged sloping crown fork (PDG had a unicrown fork), self-describing serial number format (PDG serials start with a letter and then a string of random numbers), and the lack of P.D.G. decal. This USA model is a much higher quality build and MUCH more rare than the PDG bikes.
The serial number 530BMW B92058 identifies the following data: 530 is the frame size in mm, "B" is the fork steerer tube length on their A-E scale, "M" indicates True Temper O.S. tubing, "W" is Waterford, "B" is the month of February, "92" is the year, and "058" means it's the 58th frame built in February of 1992.
The build is possibly all original to this frame, and completely period correct except a repop saddle & modern tires. It has the original alloy Paramount-decaled Stronglight headset, Mavic MA-40 rims, a 600/Ultegra 6400 group, a Dura Ace fluted seatpost, and a new San Marco Concor Light ti saddle.
Size
This small/medium frame is labeled 53cm with a 54.5cm top tube, and will fit riders roughly 5ft 4 to 5ft 9
- Seat tube: 53cm (center to top of seat tube), 51cm (c-c)
- Top tube: 54.5cm
- Head tube: 106mm
- Chainstays: ~410mm
Condition
Very lightly ridden & near mint show bike condition! The frame and paint pass for brand new unless you look very carefully. Decals are absolutely pristine. ZERO dents, bends, damage. Paint is glossy and unworn throughout, with just a few VERY minor marks and a couple 2mm chips (primarily on dropouts, one tiny chip on the drive-side chainstay, a tiny chip on the downtube, small wear spot on the seat tube's Stone Cycles decal. The bottom of the downtube, bb shell, and chainstays are free of chips and road spray marks. The one condition thing to note is the insides of the cutouts in the rear dropouts were ever so slightly shaved down to make a rack fit better. Thus a small section of paint is gone from these spots (not visible unless you look inside the dropouts)
The bike has been given a fresh professional tuneup and new consumable parts (including period correct NOS Sedi chain & NOS Ambrosio Bike Ribbon bar tape, repop San Marco Concor Light saddle), zero miles since. Ready to ride and show, needs absolutely nothing. Tires, cables, and housing are brand new modern parts. All bearing systems have been repacked, and spin buttery smooth. Shimano 600 group has very minimal wear. The only exception is the left brake lever has a scrape on the outside edge. Wheelset is buttery smooth and true laterally & vertically, just light brake track wear. Hub-facing inside part of the rims are near perfect.
