Product Description
The Gap was Basso's top of the line racing model, and this one is quipped with a FULL Columbus SL frame/fork, and FULL Campagnolo Nuovo Record / Super Record build! It's completely original down to the chain and tires (except saddle). Ready to ride condition, and still looks great. Basso has a long history in Italian racing, and this bike is the same caliber as a Colnago, Pinarello or many handmade bike builders. This model in particular was a dream super-bike for many. Nice and light at just under 20 pounds. We acquired this from the original female owner, who bought it in 1983 from a bike shop called The Hub of Aspen, in Aspen Colorado.
SIZE: The medium 53cm frame (ST: 53cm c-t, TT 53cm c-c) will fit someone roughly 5ft 4 to 5ft 9.
THE RIDE: This is a high end steel racing bike, and has an equally amazing ride quality. It has very quick handling, and on the stiff side. With the Columbus SL tubing, road irregularities are smoothed out as well (or better!) than a carbon bike. Overall, a very fast and comfortable bike! Shifting and braking is is smooth and powerful, thanks to the Campy Record components. This bike was made to ride well, and last forever!
PANTOGRAPHS! In true Italian form, this bike is full of panto's! The most obvious is on the Super Record seatpost, with bright Italian flag colors and the Basso name. The large chainring has the Basso name panto'ed all around it's circumference. The downtube shifters are intricately milled with the Basso “B”.
CONDITION: Great mechanical condition, very good cosmetic condition. It's been given a full professional tuneup, including fresh grease in all bearings. Wear items have about 75% life left. Cosmetically, it passes the 5 foot test with flying colors. Paint is glossy, details intact. Up close, you can notice some light scratches and paint chips here and there. Decals look great, with a few blemishes. Most components are in excellent to pristine shape with little wear. One exception is the brake levers, which are a bit scraped up and have dry/cracked hoods. The original handlebar tape is clean, but has a few minor cuts (can install new bar tape if you prefer, this was left on due to it's high quality and originality).
