Product Description
The Grand Jubilee was Motobecane's flagship top-of-the-line touring bike in the late 1970's and early 1980's. This 1979 model is a very nice riding bike! It's super smooth, with very predictable handling. It's rather light and stiff for a touring bike as well, at a scant 23.5 pounds! It came with a mix of Suntour Cyclone components, but has been fully upgraded with late 80's and early 90's high end parts throughout. Indexed 14 speed Shimano 600 drivetrain, Dura Ace / Mavic wheels, Planet Bike fenders. The tubing is Vitus 172 double butted steel, which is the French equivilent of Reynolds 531. Motobecane is known for their gorgeous paint jobs, and this is no exception. The stark contrast between the black main tubes with the red and gold accents is striking. I rode it around Aspen a bit, and received countless complements from the local bike snobs.
It was owned and ridden by a 40+ year bicycle industry veteran, and has been cared for meticulously. It was from an age when high quality bicycles were built to last a lifetime, and this one will last you decades with some care.
Here's the 1979 Motobecane Catalog featuring this bike.
FRAME SIZE:
This large 57cm frame will fit someone roughly 5ft 10 to 6ft 2.
- Seat tube: 57cm (c-c), 59cm (c-t)
- Top tube: 57cm
- Headtube: 185mm
CONDITION:
Amazing mechanical condition, very good cosmetic condition. ALL components are tuned perfectly with lots of life left. Tires, chain, and gears, and brake pads have minimal wear. Brand new cork bar tape, cables, and brake levers. The paint passes the 5ft test, but up close you can see little scratches and chips from normal use. NO rust/bends/cracks/dents. Decals look great with only minor wear except for the seattube Vitus decal which is almost gone. Wheels have the most wear of the components. True, smooth, but some cosmetic wear.
