Product Description
It's not every day you find a first year Trek with a build as cool as this!
This is a higly competent touring bicycle that has been ridden across the country three times. It was owned and ridden by a woman Cat 2 racer who was the wife of a long time bike shop owner in Montrose, Colorado. It has been taken care of VERY well. I couldn't find a single component that needed to be adjusted when I acquired it! And being a very first year Trek model, it's a piece of history. Handbuilt in Waterloo Wisconson.
The serial number is E1L7E01. The "E" means it's from the TX500 / 520 line. The "1" represents size 19.75". The "L" and "7" mean it was built in December 1977. I was told it's made from Ishiwata chromoly, which ensures this is in the 500 line (as 700's had Reynolds). It's exact model is a mystery. This info came from the Vintage Trek site.
FRAME SIZE:
This small 49cm / 53cm frame will fit someone roughly 5ft 2 to 5ft 7. 49cm c-c seat tube, 53cm top tube. This is the smallest frame Trek made in it's early years, and was labeled size 19 3/4". See geometry chart in images.
CONDITION:
Great used condition. The frame is straight, with no dents/cracks/bends/gouges. The paint looks good from a distance, but has a good amount of chips. Many of the chips have been touched up by the previous owner.
