Product Description
In 2006, Trek Discovery Channel was on the hunt to find a replacement for Lance Armstrong as team leader after he retired. This artwork series was made in commemoration. It's more common form is plain ol' paper posters, but this one is imposed on professional quality composite wood measuring 10mm thick and weighing a hefty 10 pounds. I'm not sure the method it was imposed on the wood, printed, painted? These are VERY luxurious and professional looking. The edges are beveled and painted black. They're the sort of art you expect to see hanging on the wall of a high end bicycle pro shop or fancy restaurant/bar.
The artwork itself is designed with a retro / vintage print theme in mind. It has that grainy, lined dot-matrix look. It's really quite well done. I have not been able to figure out who the artist was. There's no actual patina from age, that is all part of the design and it looks wonderful.
This one depicts the Ukrainian Popovych from an upward perspective riding a road bike with fighter jets flying overhead. The quote "What cold war countries develop when there is no cold war" connects the BB to front hub in a diagonal.
We have 5 of the 6 pieces in this set for sale. The 6th we are missing is a horizontal one depicting all of the riders from the 5 we do have. We priced the Hincapie at $250 and the rest at $200.
Condition
Mint! These hung on the wall of a collector, and show zero wear. (It seems I cropped this photo too closely, the whole artwork is there despite the very edges being cropped off! I'll re-photograph soon)
