This is the only easy to use and efficient universal fork crown race puller that doesn't damage your fork's paint (aside from the $350 Park Tool CRP-2)! This lived in my shop for years and came out every time I wanted to remove a crown. I'm only selling because I splurged on that crazy Park Tool. The Stein tool works on every crown race I tried it on save the 1.5" and a few aero forks where there the fork crown extends way past the race and there's zero gap under the race.
It has two wedge-like jaws that come together from the sides to catch under the edge of the fork-crown race . A hollow shaft that fits over the fork column is joined to these jaws. A slide hammer slides down the shaft to provide the impact that removes the race. The jaws can be pressed together in a vise to wedge the race up slightly to get better engagement of the jaws before using the slide hammer.
