Product Description
Rare 1st gen Crane GS from ~1971 to 1973, model number DR102. It is identified via the cable stop being cast into the rear housing knuckle and round cutouts in cage. The 2nd gen D511 started around 1973 and acquired a barrel adjuster stop that was a pivoting attachment to the knuckle. The 3rd gen DB110 lost the earlier gen's domed cable pinch bolt and the cage cutouts are oval.
The Crane was the first Dura Ace derailleur. It was named after the bird the crane, because of it's long neck / long cage. Why it was called Crane instead of Dura Ace is unknown. It's a very popular touring derailleur for classic road bikes with it's true long cage. The Campagnolo Rallly and Sachs-Huret Duopar were the only other long cage options at the time. It was produced from 1971 to 1977.
Condition
Excellent used shape with low miles. It is for the most part very clean with the exception of the scraped and corroded upper pivot bolt (replaceable). Faceplate and knuckles have light wear but no significant scrapes. Pivots tight and smooth, pulleys show almost no wear and are smooth.
