Product Description
Super rare piece of history, folx! This is a 1930's Sturmey Archer Quadrant shifter, intended to control a 3 speed internally geared hub and mounted on a standard 1" top tube. The Quadrant shifter was introduced in 1938 in a simplified form. This one released in the mid 1930's, and was discontinued by 1939 when the handlebar mounted trigger shifter (introduced around 1938) claimed its dominance. This shifter was constructed of bronze and plated with chrome. This one has earned a lovely patina over it's 85 or so years on earth, and much of the bronze is on display. IMO it is prettier now than when it was new. Originally the darker parts in relief around the logo and gear indicator names were black and the rest was a dull chrome.
Condition
Excellent used shape with a gorgeous patina. It works perfectly, and the lever action is smooth. Clamp bolt is included (not pictured). The right edge of the top plate does have a little wave in it.
