Product Description
Introduced in 1960, the Super 60 was Cyclo-Benelux's attempt at competing with Campagnolo and it's Gran Sport + Record drivetrains. It was the companies first dual parallelogram derailleur, and was designed to be a top level racing model. The finish's brilliant chrome and blue/red accents easily outshine Campagnolo's more modest stylings, but lacked Campagnolo's Tour De France reputation and marketing. The 60 was often used to upgrade 1950's bikes with chain and plunger derailleurs such as the Benelux Mark 7 Tourist and various Huret/Simplex models. You'll find it on legendary bicycles such as Hetchins Magnum Bonum, Baines Flying Gate, Flying Scott Supreme, etc. Quite rare, quite beautiful.
This one is a 1st style, easily identified via it's symmetric outer cage plate with prominent horns. The 2nd style had an asymmetric cage similar to the Mark 7/8's, unknown date when it changed over. The model ran until 1968, as the 1967 Nuovo Record rear derailleur killed this model's viability.
Condition
Near mint or better show worthy condition with very few miles! This is about as close to NOS condition you're likely to find short of a unicorn NIB example for several hundred more. There is some likely original factory grease dried in the deep corners. If you spend some time to clean that up this will not be out of place on a pristine show bike. Zero scrapes to the face, knuckles, or elsewhere. Original pulleys are buttery smooth. Pivots/spring tight and smooth. There is the slightest scratching just on the edges of the faceplate's blue finish. The only real blemish to note is the rear of the inner cage plate has a couple small chrome chips.
