Product Description
Campagnolo #631 Seat Tube Cable Guide Tube & Stop Clip w/ Pump Rest: Tubular! 1950's / 1960's / 1970's - Bolt/Nut (Near Mint)
This is a very rare #631 seat tube mounted cable guide available from the 1950's (Earliest Catalog #12 1953) through 1970's. The #630 alternatively, was for the downtube and only had one pump arm vs the 631's two angled ones. This generation features the distinctive round tube as the guide, instead of the upside-down "V" shaped guide the common 60's to 1980's ones have. It has a cable stop for the front derailleur, as well as a bottom rest for a frame pump. If you're restoring a 1950's Bianchi or other Gran Sport equipped Italian bicycle of the era, you probably already know what this is.
This appears in catalogs 12 (1953), 12 (1955), and 14 (1960). Catalog 16 didn't come out until 1967, and it featured the current V shaped guide. One could speculate that Campy released the newer version in 1963 with the 1st year Record derailleur. The 1951 catalog does not show a downtube clamp cable guide at all, though if you're lucky enough to have a 1st year 1951 Gran Sport rear derailleur this is the most appropriate guide for you.
Condition
Near mint or better very lightly used condition. This would look right at home on most any show bike. There's two points of missing chrome from pump contact, and very light tool wear on bolt. Chrome is close to pristine otherwise!
