Product Description
Exceptionally and truly rare early Campagnolo Super Record headset! This version showed up on high level bikes in the early to mid 1970's (roughly 1973 to 1976?), and were very expensive. As such, apparently not many were made. One of the more rare pieces of Campagnolo componentry. If you're building a top level Italian road bike from this era such as a Raleigh Team Pro, you need this to be truly catalog spec!
This version was essentially the Nuovo Record headset replicated in alloy and a drilled upper race. The 1st gen is identified by 1) dull aluminum finish vs polished in later generations 2) top nut has spacer flange as NR does, later generations were flat bottom, 3) 1st gen had a 2mm plain alloy spacer, later gens had the thick engraved spacer, 4) top nut has dashes between words, and long "O's" vs later with round O's and no dashes, and 5) bottom of top cup/nut say either Italy or England on one side and the thread measurement on the opposite.
Condition
Near mint lightly used shape. Worthy of most show bikes save perfect NOS examples. Cups have very minimal marks, none worth singling out. Wrench flats have very light tool wear. The cups & races have the beginnings of dark marks from bearings, but none can be felt when you run a fine pick over them.
